Optical yields of up to 60percent are obtained in the hydrogenation in water of prochiral compounds in the presence of rhodium complexes of asymmetric water-soluble diphosphines derived from 2-<(diphenylphosphino)methyl>-4-(diphenylphosphino)pyrrolidine.
