In conclusion, we have developed a Pd-catalyzed enantio-
selective C−H carbonylation by desymmetrization. Commer-
cially available L-pGlu-OH is used as a chiral ligand. Chiral
isoquinolinones are obtained with good yields and high
enantioselectivities under mild conditions. The isoquinolinone
can be easily transformed into other useful compounds without
loss of optical activity. Mechanistic studies and DFT
calculations revealed that the C−H activation is involved in
the rate-determining step and provided a reasonable reaction
pathway.
