The organometallic Lewis acids (OC)5Re⁺ and Cp(OC)(Ph3P)Ru⁺ form adducts with the O- and N-donors H2O, EtOH, THF, acetone, CH3CN, carboxylic esters, NCCH2CO2Me, BrCH2CO2Me, γ-valerolactone, δ-valerolactam, ε-caprolactam, benzophenone imine.The chiral ethanol complex ⁺BF4^- crystallizes as pairs of enantiomers S_RuS_O and R_RuR_O and the single crystal X-ray determination shows a hydrogen bridge between the oxygen atom of coordinated ethanol and the tetrafluoroborate anion.
