Reactions of tris-(dimethylamino)-phosphine (Tdp) with the metal carbonyls Ni(CO)4, Co2(CO)8, Cr(CO)6, Mo(CO)6, and W(CO)6 yield the compounds (Tdp)2Ni(CO)2, [(Tdp)2Co(CO)3] [Co(CO)4], (Tdp)Cr(CO)5, (Tdp)Mo(CO)5, and (Tdp)2- W(CO)4, respectively. Reaction of either Fe(CO)5 or Fe3(CO)12 with tris-(dimethylamino)-phosphine yields a mixture of (Tdp)Fe(CO)4 and (Tdp)2Fe(CO)3 which may be separated by fractional sublimation. Reactions of C7H8M(CO)4 (C7H8 = bicyclo[2.2.1]heptadiene, M = Cr and Mo) and C7H8M(CO)3 (C7H8 = cycloheptatriene, M = Cr and Mo) with tris-(dimethylamino)-phosphine yield the compounds (Tdp)2M(CO)4 (M = Cr and Mo). Reaction of Hg[Co(CO)4]2 with tris-(dimethylamino)-phosphine yields the compound Hg[Co(CO)3(Tdp)]2. Reaction of C5H5V(CO)4 with tris-(dimethylamino)-phosphine yields the compound C5H5V(CO)3(Tdp). Reaction of [C5H5NiCO]2 with tris-(dimethylamino)-phosphine yields a mixture of (Tdp)2Ni(CO)2 and (C5H5)2Ni. Reactions of the halide derivatives C5H5Fe(CO)2I, C3H5Fe(CO)3I, C5H5Mo(CO)3I, and C7H7Mo(CO)2I with tris-(dimethylamino)-phosphine yield the compounds [C5H5Fe(CO)2(Tdp)]I, (Tdp)2Fe(CO)3, C5H5Mo(CO)2(TdP)I (two isomers), and C7H7MoCO(Tdp)I. The proton n.m.r. spectra of these compounds are discussed.
