Starting from 4, 5, 12, 13-tetrakis(methoxycarbonil)<2.2>paracyclophane (1), the penta-(4), hexa-(6a-c), hepta-(7), and octamethyl-(8) derivatives have been prepared by a repetative formylation-reduction sequence.
