The kinetics of oxidation of L-phenylalanine by hydrogen peroxide in the presence of Fe(II) ions have been studied. The reaction is first order with respect to both phenylalanine and Fe(II) ions but zero order with respect to hydrogen peroxide. The energy of activation has been calculated to be 11.45 +/- 0.01 kcal mol-1.A reaction mechanism has also been proposed.
