Irradiation of substituted bicyclo[n.1.0]alkan-2-ones at 254 nm in the presence of triethylamine and lithium perchlorate (LiClO₄) can lead to cyclopropane ring opening with cleavage of the C(1)-C(n +2) (ring enlargement) or C(1)-C(n+3) bonds.
