HOCl were observed, particularly at short reaction times,
suggesting that hydrolysis of ClONO2 also occurs. It may be
that the mechanism of these reactions involves hydrolysis of
ClONO2 to generate HOCl, followed by the well-known acid-
catalyzed reaction with chloride ions to generate Cl2.
With these reaction probabilities, this reaction may be a
significant contributor to the observed48-50 levels of Cl2 at night
in the marine boundary layer.
