1,2-Dimethylhydrazinochloro- and -fluorodiphosphines

P(NCH₃NCH₃)₃P and ClP(NCH₃NCH₃)₂PCl react with PCl₃ to form Cl₂PNCH₃NCH₃PCl₂. The latter compound can also be prepared by hydrazinolysis of PCL₃ with HNCH₃NCH₃H. The corresponding 1,2-dimethylhydrazinofluorodiphosphines can be synthesized from the chloro derivatives by fluorination with SbF₃. These compounds form complexes with simple BX₃ Lewis acids. Direct reaction with B₂H₆ yields the bis-borane derivatives of each of these compounds except Cl₂PNCH₃-NCH₃PCl₂, which undergoes decomposition. In the case of F₂PNCH₃NCH₃PF₂ a mono-borane adduct could also be isolated. In each of the compounds, BH₃ addition occurs exclusively at the phosphorus. With BF₃ unstable complexes form whose properties are reminiscent of the nitrogen-bonded BF₃ complexes of the aminohalophosphines.
