Anhydrous FeCl₃ in CH₂Cl₂ has been found to readily anomerize β-glycopyranosides to their corresponding α-anomers in good yields and selectivities at room temperatures. Acetyl- and benzoyl-protected oxygen sugars yielded the best results.
