Synthesis of this chemcial: Shatter 10g A germanium sulfide and take it into 250mL conical flask. Meanwhile, add excessive 200% (about 80mL) of concentrated hydrogen periodate (57%, relative density 1.7). In the steam bath heat it to 100 °C, and continue to shake and respond. After 20 minutes later, filtering and cooling the filtrate, you will get a shiny yellow brown flaky crystal germanium diiodide. About 30minutes, filtering and collecting crystals, the filtrate containing germanium sulfide back into the original Erlenmeyer flask. This operation repeated 3 to 4 times, most of the sulfide is transformed into iodide.  In a vacuum,  the four germanium iodide sublimation removed when heated  to 100 °C. Then obtain the Germanium diiodide.

When you are using this chemical, please be cautious about it as the following: This chemical causes burns. You should wear suitable protective clothing if you use it. Don't breathe vapor. In case of contacting with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.
