Poison by intravenous route. Mildly toxic by inhalation. Irritating to respiratory tract. Narcotic in high concentrations. A very dangerous fire hazard when exposed to heat or flame; can react with oxidizing materials. Explosive in the form of vapor when exposed to heat or flame. Emitted from modern building materials ( CENEAR Chemical and Engineering News. 69 (1991),22. ). To fight fire, use CO2, dry chemical. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes.
NONANE Standards and Recommendations
OSHA PEL: TWA 200 ppm
ACGIH TLV: TWA 200 ppm
DOT Classification: 3; Label: Flammable Liquid
NONANE Specification
Storage of NONANE: Keep in a cool, well-ventilated place. Keep away from sources of ignition. Keep container tightly closed. Keep away from heat. Flammable materials should be stored in a separate safety storage cabinet or room. Ground all equipment containing material. A refrigerated room would be preferable for materials with a flash point lower than 37.8°C (100°F).
