Synthesis of Potassium heptafluorotantalate: It can be produced by both anhydrous and wet methods. For example, the anhydrous method involves the reaction of tantalum oxide with ammonium bifluoride and the reaction with potassium fluoride at 300-400 °C:
Ta₂O₅ + 7 NH₄HF₂ → 2 NH₄TaF₆ + 5 H₂O + 2 HF + 5 NH₃
NH₄TaF₆ + 2 KF → K₂TaF₇ + NH₃ + HF
