General Description
1-Tetradecyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([C14mim][Br]) is a surface-active ionic liquid (SAIL) with a long alkyl chain (C14) that exhibits micellization behavior in aqueous solutions, forming aggregates at critical micelle concentration (CMC). Its interfacial properties, such as surface excess concentration (Γmax), surface pressure (Πcmc), and minimum area per molecule (Amin), are influenced by interactions with polyelectrolytes like sodium carboxymethylcellulose (NaCMC), which can alter its aggregation morphology. Additionally, SAILs with alkyl chains longer than C8, including [C14mim][Br], demonstrate notable antimicrobial activity due to increased hydrophobicity, while their cytotoxicity has been assessed on human cell lines like HeLa. 1-tetradecyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide's micellization and biological effects are further supported by computational studies correlating its structural properties with ecological behavior.
