The search investigates the thermal decomposition processes of Bismuth(III) Thiocyanate (Bi(SCN)3), Cadmium(II) Thiocyanate (Cd(SCN)2), Lead(II) Thiocyanate (Pb(SCN)2), and Copper(II) Thiocyanate (Cu(SCN)2). The study employs thermal analysis curves, X-ray diffraction, and chemical analysis to determine the nature of the reactions and the gaseous products (SO2 and CO2) released during decomposition. The compounds were heated in an electric furnace in an air atmosphere, and the decomposition stages were identified through TG, DTG, and DTA curves. The results show that each compound decomposes in multiple stages, with distinct intermediate and final products. For instance, Bi(SCN)3 decomposes into Bi2O3 and (BiO)2SO4, while Cd(SCN)2 forms CdO, Pb(SCN)2 yields PbO, and Cu(SCN)2 ultimately produces CuO. The study provides detailed insights into the thermal decomposition mechanisms of these metal thiocyanates, which are significant for analytical methods involving thiocyanates and for understanding the thermal behavior of related compounds.
