  • General Description 1,5-Diaminopentane (also known as cadaverine or pentamethylenediamine) is a biologically and industrially significant diamine, primarily produced via the enzymatic decarboxylation of l-lysine by lysine decarboxylase (LDC). It serves as a key precursor for bio-based nylon PA5X, with industrial applications in engineered plastics and fibers. Recent advances have identified highly efficient LDC enzymes, such as those from *Edwardsiella tarda* and *Aeromonas* sp., capable of achieving high yields and productivity under optimized conditions (e.g., pH 6–7, 50–55 °C). Additionally, 1,5-diaminopentane is involved in microbial siderophore biosynthesis, where it competes with other diamines like cystamine during assembly. Its charge properties also facilitate separation techniques like electrodialysis when derived from amino acid mixtures.
