  • General Description (Chlorooxy)chlorane oxide (Cl2O2), also known as chlorine chlorite, exists primarily as two isomeric forms: ClOOCl (chlorine perchlorate) and ClOClO (chlorine chlorite). The predominant form, ClOOCl, is characterized by infrared absorption bands at 1225 and 1057 cm-1, while the secondary form, ClOClO, exhibits a band at 650 cm-1. The UV spectrum of ClOOCl shows a peak absorption cross-section near 720 nm, with significant absorption extending into the UV range, which has implications for stratospheric chemistry.
