Chemical Baike

β-Cleavage

In the excited state, the ketone molecule undergoes a β-cleavage reaction. β-cleavage is a chemical reaction where a bond is cleaved at the β-carbon (the carbon next to the carbonyl group). This cleavage results in the formation of a xanthyl cation and a radical species.
