Ortho-Benzoxylation

In this reaction, an aryl group (often an aryl halide) is reacted with a palladium(II) catalyst in the presence of CAN. The directing group, usually a benzoyl group (C6H5C(O)R), guides the palladium-catalyzed reaction to occur at the ortho position with respect to the directing group. The CAN serves as an oxidizing agent, promoting the oxidation of Pd(II) to Pd(IV) and enabling the reaction to proceed.
