Micelles are small, self-assembled structures formed by amphiphilic molecules in a solvent. In traditional micelles, the hydrophilic (polar) heads of the molecules are oriented outward, while the hydrophobic (nonpolar) tails are sequestered inside the structure. Reverse micelles are the opposite, with the polar heads pointing inwards and the nonpolar tails on the outside. This arrangement is useful for encapsulating hydrophilic substances within the polar core.
