Thioacetalization

Thioacetalization is a chemical reaction in which a thiol (a sulfur-containing compound) is used to convert a carbonyl compound (usually an aldehyde or ketone) into a thioacetal. Thioacetals are compounds that contain a sulfur atom bonded to two carbon atoms and are often used as protecting groups in organic synthesis.
