Turpentine Specification

The systematic name of Skipidar is Turpentine substitutes. With the CAS registry number 9005-90-7, it is also named as Gum turpentine. The product's classification code is TSCA UVCB, and the other registry numbers are 64827-15-2; 9000-54-8. Besides, it is a fluid obtained by the distillation of resin obtained from trees, mainly pine trees. It is composed of terpenes, mainly the monoterpenes alpha-pinene and beta-pinene.

The other characteristics of this product can be summarized as: (1)Density: 0.86 g/cm3; (2)Boiling point: 154-170 °C; (3)Flash point: 35 °C; (4)EINECS: 232-688-5.

Preparation of Skipidar: this chemical can be prepared by distilling from the California pines such as Ponderosa Pine (Pinus ponderosa) and Gray Pine. Moreover, it is collected as a byproduct when producing chemical wood pulp from pines or other coniferous trees with the Kraft process.

Uses of Skipidar: this chemical can be used as a solvent, which is used for thinning oil-based paints, for producing varnishes, and as a raw material for the chemical industry. Furthermore, it is used as a source of raw materials in the synthesis of fragrant chemical compounds. Because of its antiseptic properties and its "clean scent", it is also added to many cleaning and sanitary products. What's more, it can be used for treatment of intestinal parasites due to its alleged antiseptic and diuretic properties, and a general cure-all as in Hamlin's Wizard Oil.
