Uses
Copper oxide (CAS NO.1344-70-3) is used as a pigment in ceramics to produce blue, red, and green (and sometimes gray, pink, or black) glazes, and also can be used to produce cuprammonium hydroxide solutions, and make rayon. It is occasionally used as a dietary supplement in animals, against copper deficiency, and can be used to safely dispose of hazardous materials.
Production
Copper oxide (CAS NO.1344-70-3) can be formed by heating copper in air: 2 Cu + O2 → 2 CuO , but it is better prepared by heating copper(II) nitrate , copper(II) hydroxide or copper(II) carbonate : 2 Cu(NO3)2 → 2 CuO + 4 NO2 + O2 ; Cu(OH)2 (s) → CuO (s) + H2O (l) ; CuCO3 → CuO + CO2 .

It is hazardous, so the first aid measures and others should be known.
