  Chromium sulfate (CAS NO.14489-25-9) is widely used in the tanning of leather .

Production

 Basic chromium sulfate is produced from chromate salts by reduction with sulfur dioxide, although other methods exist.Heating the violet solid leads to partial dehydration to give a hydrated green salt and eventually the anhydrous derivative.
