The systematic name of Polypropylene glycol is Poly(oxy(methyl-1,2-ethanediyl)), alpha-hydro-omega-hydroxy-. With the CAS registry number 25322-69-4, it is also named as Methyloxirane homopolymer. The product's categories are Polymers; Ethers; Hydrophobic Polymers; Propylene Glycol; Poly(propyleneglycol); Alphabetic; Water Soluble Polymers. It is viscous colourless liquid which is soluble in water (low molecular weight ), aliphatic ketons, alcohols and other organic solvents, insoluble in ether and most of the aliphatic hydrocarbons. When use it, people should avoid contact with skin and eyes. Additioanlly, this chemical should be sealed in the container and stored in the cool and dry place. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes.

Preparation of Polypropylene glycol: Polypropylene glycol can be prepared by anionic ring-opening polymerization of propylene oxide. This reaction needs ethylene glycol and potassium hydroxide.
Uses of Polypropylene glycol: Polypropylene glycol is used as a rheology modifier in many formulations for polyurethanes. It is also used as a surfactant, wetting agent and dispersant in leather finishing. Moreover, it can be used to sterilize or pasteurize nutmeats, notably almonds. And it is applied to the manufacture of paintballs as a primary ingredient. Furthermore, it is used in mass spectrometry as a tuning reference.
