With parabens, Imidurea (CAS NO.39236-46-9) provides a broad spectrum of activity against bacteria, yeast, and mold. It has made the Germall 115-paraben combination one of the most widely used cosmetic reservative systems in the world.
Imidurea can be produced by the chemical reaction of allantoin and formaldehyde in the presence of sodium hydroxide solution and heat. The reaction mixture is then neutralized with hydrochloric acid and evaporated.

Moderately toxic by intraperitoneal route. Mildly toxic by ingestion. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of NOx.Some people,those often also allergic to diazolidinyl urea, have a contact allergy to GERMALL 115(imidazolidinyl urea )causing dermatitis.
