Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by (+-)-2,2-dimethyl-[1,3]dioxolane-4-carbaldehyde and (triphenyl-l5-phosphanylidene)-acetic acid ethyl ester. This reaction is a kind of Condensation. The reaction time is 2 hours with reaction temperature of 20 ℃. The yield is about 66%.

Uses of 2-Propenoic acid,3-[(4S)-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl]-, ethyl ester, (2E)-: it can be used to produce (R,S)-(E)-3,4-(isopropylidenedioxy)-2-penten-1-ol at temperature of -78 °C. This reaction is a kind of Reduction. It will need reagent DIBAL-H and solvent CH₂Cl₂. The yield is about 85%.
