Interatomic distances for some first row transition element dichlorides isolated in cryogenic matrices using x-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy
Beattle, Ian R.,Spicer, Mark D.,Young, Nigel A.
, p. 8700 - 8705 (1994)
X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) data for several 3d transition metal dichlorides isolated in nitrogen, argon, or methane matrices have been collected and analyzed. The bond lengths obtained are in reasonable agreement with those from vapor phase ele
Matrix isolation and Mass Spectrometric Studies on the Vaporisation of Chromium(III) Chloride. The Characterisation of Molecular CrCl4 and CrCl3
Ogden, J. Steven,Wyatt, Robert S.
, p. 859 - 866 (2007/10/02)
Mass spectrometric and matrix isolation i.r. studies on the vaporisation of solid chromium(III) chloride over the temperature range 550-800 deg C reveal three different molecular chromium halides. At the lowest temperatures, CrCl4 is identified as the most volatile species and its tetrahedral structure confirmed by isotope patterns. At ca. 600 deg C, a new molecular species, CrCl3, appears and its structure is similarly shown to be planar (D3h).Further heating to ca. 780 deg C results in the formation of molecular CrCl2.The results are discussed in the light of previous studies on transition metal halide systems.
