Crisscross Dimerization of 1-Isopropylidene-4,4-dimethyl-2,5-cyclohexadiene
Nelsen, Stephen F.,Teasley, Mark F.
, p. 4319 - 4320 (1986)
Treatment of 1-isopropylidene-4,4-dimethyl-2,5-cyclohexadiene (1) with acid in the presence of trifluoroacetic anhydride and trifluoroacetic acid causes efficient formation of the dimer 3,10-bis(1-methylethylidene)-6,6,12,12-tetramethylpentacyclo2,7.04,11.05,9>dodecane (2), a structural transformation without precedent in the absence of transition metals.
