Organotellurium oxinates of the type R2TeL2 have been prepared in quantitative yields by the interaction of R2TeX2 with NaL or HL.R2TeL2 react with haloacetic acids (R'COOH) to yield mixed ligand complexes of the type R2Te(OCOR')L.The proton magnetic and IR spectra suggest that R2TeL2 possess two types of oxine groups one of which is bidentate and the other unidentate. The tellurium atom thus prefers to remain pentacoordinate in an octahedral geometry, one of the sites being occupied by a lone pair.
