General Description

1,1'-Dioxide-4,4'-azodi-2-picolin (DOD) is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C12H10N4O4. It is commonly used as an initiator for the polymerization of certain monomers, such as acrylic acid and acrylonitrile. DOD is a white to pale yellow crystalline solid that is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. It is a stable compound when stored at room temperature but can decompose at higher temperatures, releasing nitrogen gas. DOD is also used in the production of certain dyes and pigments. However, it should be handled with care and stored in a cool, dry place away from heat and sources of ignition.
