The unusual wavelength dependent product selectivity observed upon irradiation of a substituted 2,5-cyclohexadien-1-one is shown to result from wavelength dependent quantum yields for rearreangement of the primary photoproduct bicyclohexenones.Reaction selectivity can be optimized by careful choice of irradiation wavelength and length of irradiation time.
