A protected form of L-seryl-D-(p-hydroxyphenyl)glycine was cyclized in a biogenetic sense and partially deprotected to give (-)-t-butyl 3-amino nocardicinate (5) from which (-)-nocardicin A (1) and (-)-nocardicin G (11) were prepared.
