2-Ethoxycarbonyl-3-methyl- and 3-phenylthienoindolizine derivatives were first synthesized in moderate to good yields by the treatment of tricyclic 5,5a-dihydropyridothienothiazines with a dehydrogenating agent.In contrast to the cases of bicyclic 1,9a-dihydropyridothiazines, all of the thienonidolizines obtained here were rearranged products and desulfurized product could be obtained.
