The reaction of 3-pyridine with substituted acetophenones in the presence of a proton catalyst leads to 1-aryl-3-(3-pyridyl)benzoquinolines.Noncyclic amino ketones - -1-propanones - precede the formation of the cyclic products.The IR, UV, PMR, and mass spectra of the synthesized compounds are discussed.
