Irradiation of 4-phenylquinazolin-2-ones (1) in the presence of hydrogen donor such as xanthene (2a), sulfide (2c), and acyclic or cyclic ethers (2b, d-e), gave the C-C bonded 1:1-adducts of (1) and (2) via hydrogen atom abstraction of the excited imino nitrogen of (1), while irradiation of (1) in the presence of triethylamine gave the reduced 3,4-dihydroquinazolin-2-ones.
