An efficient and environmentally friendly synthesis of 6-amino-5-cyano-1,4- dihydropyridine derivatives was developed by the one-pot reaction of ethyl acetoacetate, [(2-aryl)methylene]malononitriles, and ammonium acetate at room temperature with grinding.
