A reaction built for two: A novel gold-catalyzed tandem cycloisomerization/dimerization of chiral homopropargyl sulfonamides has been developed. The reaction provides ready access to functionalized pyrrolidines in mostly good to excellent yields. Notably, excellent diastereoselectivities (>50:1) were also achieved in all cases. Copyright

The reaction of N-acylaminoalkyl diethylacetals with triflic acid in benzene gave N-acylamino-diphenylalkyls. The proposed intermediates are the N-acyl-2-phenyl cyclic amides, which themselves are similarly converted to N-acylamino-diphenylalkyls.
