Benzodioxane analogues of pseudobaptigenin with alkyl fragments in positions 2 and 6 of the chromone ring have been synthesized from α-(1,4-benzodioxan-6-yl)-2-hydroxy-6-alkylacetophenones.

PMR spectra were obtained for benzodioxane and benzodioxepan derivatives of chromanone.The heterocyclic substituent in 2-substituted chromanones (flavanone analogs) has equatorial orientation, while the heterocyclic substituent in 3-substituted chromanones (isoflavanone analogs) has axial orientation.These conclusions are based on analysis of the coupling constans, aromatic solvent-induced shifts, and shifts induced by lanthanide shift reagents.
