The invention belongs to the technical field of organic synthesis and relates to a long-wavelength hydroxymethyl phenyl ketone photoinitiator and a preparation method thereof. The emission wavelengthrange of LED light sources used in the market at present is 365 nm or above. The maximum absorption wavelength of a traditional photoinitiator 1173 is 331 nm and is not matched with the emission wavelength of the LED light sources; in order to enable the maximum absorption wavelength of the traditional 1137 photoinitiator to be matched with the emission wavelength of the LED light sources, the invention provides the long-wavelength hydroxyl methyl phenyl ketone photoinitiator. A 2-hydroxyl-2-methyl-1-phenyl-1-acetone photoinitiator and a ketone compound containing alpha H are subjected to condensation reaction, so that the long-wavelength hydroxymethyl phenyl ketone photoinitiator can be obtained; the maximum absorption wavelength of the long-wavelength hydroxymethyl phenyl ketone photoinitiator can reach 365 nm or above; the long-wavelength hydroxymethyl phenyl ketone photoinitiator is matched with the LED light sources used on the market and has good application prospects.

The present invention discloses novel aromatic ketone compounds with functional substitution groups at para- or meta positions which can be used as photo-initiators or effective components of photo-initiator mixtures for the photopolymerizations of ethylenically unsaturated systems. The preparation of these compounds is also disclosed.
