In the methoxycarbonylation of N,N-di(2-propynyl)haloanilines, together with N,N-di(3-methoxycarbonyl-2-propynyl)haloanilines, the substitution products of the terminal acetylenic hydrogen atoms , addition products are formed of the methoxycarbonyl group at one of the triple bonds of the above diesters, accompanied by their cyclization to dimethyl 1-halophenyl-5-methoxycarbonylmethylene-1,2,5,6-tetrahydropyridine-3,4-dicarboxylates.
