New eight, nine and ten membered cyclic phosphates having transannularly placed nitrogen atom have been synthesized and subjected to hydrolysis in 20percent dioxane-water.The eight membered compounds undergo hydrolysis in the acid medium whereas the higher homologues are comparatively insensitive to change of pH.Nucleophilic participation of nitrogen in the eight membered and general acid-base catalysis in the nine and ten membered esters are found to be responsible for this reactivity difference.
