Synthesis of a variety of novel 3-aza-1-dethiacepham analogs (6a-d, 7a-d, 13a-c, 18a, b, 21, 22) via cycloaddition has been described.The reaction of in situ generated ketene and appropriate heterocycles as imine components results in the formation of polycyclic β-lactams.Since thienopyrimidine derivatives have potential biological activity, the main work involves the grafting of β-lactam ring onto these moieties through a simple approach.
