The preparation and infrared spectra of RSn[Co(CO)4]3 (R = C6H5, CH3, CH2=CH, n-C4H9) and XSn[Co(CO)4]3 (X = Cl, Br, I) are described. Their mass spectra are reported, and from this evidence, their formulation as tetracarbonylcobalt derivatives (III) is conclusively established. Their structures thus differ from the carbon and silicon compounds (I and II) which possess a pyramidal CCo3 or SiCo3 skeleton with cobalt-cobalt bonds.
