Organometallic compounds with metal-metal bonds. V. An investigation of Tris(tetracarbonylcobalt)tin(IV) derivatives

The preparation and infrared spectra of RSn[Co(CO)₄]₃ (R = C₆H₅, CH₃, CH₂=CH, n-C₄H₉) and XSn[Co(CO)₄]₃ (X = Cl, Br, I) are described. Their mass spectra are reported, and from this evidence, their formulation as tetracarbonylcobalt derivatives (III) is conclusively established. Their structures thus differ from the carbon and silicon compounds (I and II) which possess a pyramidal CCo₃ or SiCo₃ skeleton with cobalt-cobalt bonds.
