General Description

N,N'-Bis(2-chloroethyl)oxamide, also known as BCO, is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of oxamides. It is an organic compound with the molecular formula C6H10Cl2N2O2. BCO is primarily used as a crosslinking agent in the production of latex and rubber products, as well as a biocide in metalworking fluids. It is also used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. BCO is a highly toxic and hazardous chemical, and exposure to it can cause severe skin and eye irritation, respiratory problems, and central nervous system effects. Due to its toxic nature, proper safety precautions and protective equipment should be used when handling BCO.

The present invention relates to a new method of synthesis of 2,2'-bisΔ2 -oxazoline, which consists of three steps: in the first step, N,N'-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl)-oxamide (I) is reacted with hydrogen chloride and a nitrile of formula RCN in which R=H, alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl, alkylaryl, in order to yield the corresponding In the second step, the compound (II) is pyrolyzed in order to yield N,N'-bis-(2-chloroethyl)oxamide (III) which in the third step generates, by means of the treatment with a base, the desired product 2,2'-bis-Δ2 -oxazoline.
