(1S)-1-C-(4-carboxythiazolidin-2-yl)-D-arabinitol, also known as CTH or 4-Carboxy-D-arabinitol, is a synthetic thiazolidinone derivative with structural similarities to the naturally occurring compound D-arabinitol. It functions as an inhibitor of the enzyme glyoxalase I, which plays a crucial role in the detoxification of methylglyoxal, a toxic byproduct of glycolysis. CTH's potential therapeutic applications span across diabetes, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases, attributed to its capacity to modulate cellular metabolism and oxidative stress. Additionally, it serves as a valuable research tool for investigating the glyoxalase system and its impact on cellular physiology.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 17205-71-9 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,7,2,0 and 5 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 7 and 1 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 17205-71:
(7*1)+(6*7)+(5*2)+(4*0)+(3*5)+(2*7)+(1*1)=89
89 % 10 = 9
So 17205-71-9 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Proton and Zinc(II) Complexes of 2-(Polyhydroxyalkyl)thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid Derivatives

Gajda, Tamas,Nagy, Laszlo,Burger, Kalman

, p. 3155 - 3160 (2007/10/02)

The protonation and zinc-ion co-ordination equilibria of 2-(polyhydroxyalkyl)thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid derivatives have been studied by potentiometric titration in the range pH 1.5-8.In most cases the formation of complexes with a metal-to-ligand ratio of 1:2 was demonstrated, but at above pH 6 mixed-ligand complexes involving hydroxide-ion co-ordination were also observed. The protonation and complex-formation constants were shown to depend on the structure of the polyhydroxy chains. In the case of the protonation constants this is due to the rearrangement of the intramolecular hydrogen-bonding network, while the complex-formation constants depend on the conformation of the OH groups on the first carbon atoms of the polyol chains.
