A number of quaternary ammonium, phosphonium, and arsonium hexachloroplatinates have been synthesized and used as hydrosilylation catalysts. The highest activity was observed for the quaternary hexachloroplatinates with highly lipophilic cations. Phase-transfer agents (onium salt, crown ether) were found to activate K2PtCl6 during hydrosilylation by solubilizing the PtCl62- ion. It has been shown that polymer-bound quaternary phosphonium hexachloroplatinate is also an effective hydrosilylation catalyst that can be used repeatedly without appreciable loss of activity.
