Dinuclear Cu(II) chelates were synthesized from tridentate phenylhydrazonimines derived from β-alanine and anthranilic acid.According to IR, UV, and 1H NMR spectral data, the complexes are of dimeric structure with a square-planar configuration of the CuN2O2 chelate entity.Introduction of an electron-acceptor CF3CO group into the γ-position of the quasiaromatic chelate ring leads to a red shift of the long-wave d-d transition band in the electron absorption and diffuse reflection spectra of Cu(II) chelates. The absence of an ESR signal indicates retention of the dinuclear structure upon chelate dissolution in both solvating and nonsolvating solvents.
