The reaction of acetoacetanilides with arylmethylenecyanothioacetamides leads to 4-aryl-5-arylcarbamoyl-6-methyl-3-cyanopyridine-2(1H)-thiones, based on which we have obtained substituted 2-alkylthiopyridines and thieno[2,3-b]pyridines. 1997 Plenum Publishing Corporation.
